Kwanzaa Begins
As we light the Kinara and gather in unity, we celebrate Kwanzaa and the seven principles that guide us towards a vibrant and nurturing community. It’s a time to honor African-American culture, to reflect on collective values, and to foster the bonds that bring us closer together.
Happy Kwanzaa to those of you who are celebrating! May this week-long celebration fill your home with joy and your community with light. Let each day remind us of our shared heritage, our collective responsibilities, and our common aspirations.
Umoja (Unity), to strive for and maintain unity in the family and community.
Kujichagulia (Self-Determination), to define ourselves and create a vibrant future.
Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility), to build and maintain our community together.
Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics), to support and grow our businesses.
Nia (Purpose), to make our collective vocation the building of our community.
Kuumba (Creativity), to always do as much as we can, to leave our community more beautiful and beneficial than we inherited it.
And Imani (Faith), to believe with all our heart in our people and the righteousness of our struggle.
Embracing these principles, let’s move forward into the new year with strength and purpose. If you’re seeking a new community to call home or a place where your traditions can take root and flourish, I’m here to help you find it.
